તામિલનાડુમાં છેલ્લાં કેટલાંક મહિનાઓથી વેદાંતાના સ્ટરલાઈટ કોપર યુનિટને બંધ કરવાની માગ સાથે સ્થાનિક લોકોમાં વિરોધ જોવા મળી રહ્યો છે.આ વિરોધ પ્રદર્શને હિંસક સ્વરૂપ લઈ લીધું હતું. પ્રદર્શનકારીઓ અને પોલીસ વચ્ચે થયેલી અથડામણમાં 9 લોકોના મોત નિપજ્યાં અને 30થી વધુ લોકો ઘાયલ થયા છે.
